Since 2021 WestEd has been conducting a comprehensive study to document the various facets and developmental phases of designing a modern statewide longitudinal data system. This project, funded by the Gates Foundation, uses a specialized rubric to capture the diverse dimensions involved in creating and expanding these systems.
Currently, we are partnering with 14 states to analyze their approaches, with a focus on identifying “bright spots” and common strategies. These insights will help states navigate transitions in their data systems, including changes in audience, usage, governance, and technical structures.
